about kinda sorta cool

i kickstarted kinda sorta cool out of an immense yearning and curiosity towards learning more about the processes and what it takes to keep the flight of fantasy in fashion alive. the beautiful, often (intentionally) unrealistic aspirations that we create and capitalise on require skills, time and effort with an underlying fluidity inimitable by other industries.

kinda sorta cool is how i’d describe industry and the good folk who navigate in the ecosystem: intrinsically glamorous, larger-than-life outcomes birthed from tight budgets and even tighter deadlines.

as cool connotes the calm, effortless front; kinda sorta tie in the chaos that goes behind the scenes.

kinda sorta cool documents the processes and lessons i’ve had the privilege of gaining through the people i have crossed paths with in fashion.

about lingjie

will writing about himself in third person provide a pretence of modesty? does he possess impactful writing from having a squarespace account or does he have a narrative to share?

while an academic background in psychology and marketing has helped ruin traces of any blind optimism left, his credentials in fashion and writing are as follows:

  • worked for the richest man in japan as a professional store greeter and unprofessional clothes folder

  • suffered first-degree burns from a steamer

  • poor attempt as a streetwear bro during an internship

  • attempted to style an entire lookbook with tucked-in t-shirts

  • used ‘major’ to describe looks ironically and unironically

  • serious sartorial criticism with peers in instagram DMs
